About the Program:
A COMPREHENSIVE MUSIC PERFORMANCE PROGRAM
During Strings lessons, students learn how to interact with each other in new ways that will enhance their core subjects in addition to developing skills to be an outstanding performer.
Skills Acquired by Grade Level
2nd Grade -
Fundamental skills: posture, strength, coordination, general instrument knowledge. We become confident in understanding and applying finger coordination and note names and melody changes in direction to help students learn to read music more quickly. _______ 3rd Grade - Reading skills: Acquiring the ability to perform with the skills learned in 2nd grade: posture, strength, coordination and instrumental knowledge with the ability to read. We work more intensively on both reading music and learning about diverse rhythmic notation using quarter, half and even 8th notes. _______ 4th Grade - Building on our developing skills: this year, we become more familiar with accurate intonation and group pairings where we learn to work together to produce cleaner, more in tune music. Toward the end of the year, we begin to focus on techniques that transform our sound into loud & beautiful. Other elements we focus on this year: slurred and staccato bowing, articulation and dynamics. _______ 5th Grade- As students become more advanced in their technique, they will begin to engage in smaller group projects that target more complicated skill sets and reading. In this year, we will work more on complicated rhythms, accidentals, (sharps, flats & naturals), music theory, complicated articulations and duets. Additionally, students will receive more performance opportunities this year. _______ 6th Grade- Students in the 6th grade have a diverse amount of performing opportunities and they will serve as leaders in the string community. Students at this level will begin to learn advanced techniques that will complement their growing knowledge of music theory and performance. |
